After a monumental battle for first, another exciting, nail biter of a contest comes to a close. A serious tone seemed to dominate this year’s favorites, though those sentences meant for humor were not far behind. All entries were well represented in the voting, but the three winners truly fought for position, switching their standings daily until the last possible moment.
The Writing Lab and The Learning Center are, therefore, pleased to announce this semester’s One-Sentence Story contest winners!
In 3rd place: Her name lay tattooed on his heart, but his name was absent from her mind. – Samuel Brito-Gby
In 2nd place: Someone told him to shoot for the stars; no one told him that bullets come back down. – Walter Tabelisma
And, in the number one spot…
1st place goes to: She only has a few months to live; her hair starts falling out but her husband still calls her beautiful. – Julissa Castillo
Congratulations to the winners and congratulations to all our participants. The contest was an overwhelming success due completely to all of your phenomenal one-sentence stories.
Julissa, Walter and Samuel: Please stop by The Learning Center to collect your prizes. You should all be very proud.
Thank you to Professors Callender, Ferreira, Sinopoli, Schacht and Sultanik for their enthusiastic work with the students and their continued support of The Writing Lab.
We all look forward to what exciting tales next semester will bring. You’ve cast your ballots, so now sing a ballad for the winners, writers and artists.
