A close count it was, but three writers have prevailed and assented to victory. This semester brought many moving and thrilling tales, but, here, at the end of the contest, three students have been chosen as our winners with three very fine entries to announce their debuts.
The Writing Lab is therefore very pleased to announce this semester’s One-Sentence Story contest winners!
In 3rd place: I walked away from you with a smile on my face; not because my heart wasn’t broken, but because it meant my secrets would be safe. - Miguel Angel Angue Oyono
In 2nd place: Through this sickness I have lost physically, gained emotionally and will carry on spiritually. - Jeanette Richardson
And, in the number one spot…
1st place goes to: My biggest mistake was kissing you; it condemned my soul to miss you every night, to bind my heart to your life, now you are my sky and my hell and I am between them. - Jenny Vizhco
It seems that, as in life, love has prevailed.
Congratulations to the winners and congratulations to all our participants. The contest was an overwhelming success due completely to all of your phenomenal one-sentence stories.
Jenny, Jeanette and Miguel: Please stop by room 335 and see Professor De Matteo to collect your prizes. You should all be very proud.
Thank you to Professors Ferreira, Flanagan, Schacht, Sinopoli and Sultanik for their enthusiastic work with the students and their continued support of The Writing Lab and Bonnie Scott, Jeannie Friedman, Alex Garcia and all the fine folks at The Learning Center for their constant support of our students.
We all look forward to what exciting tales next semester will bring.
