On March 22nd, Erica Schacht, with the help of Alexa Ferreira, Stacy Larson, Jackie Flynn and Diana Cusumano, hosted a symposium on the history of sexual violence in America.
There were speakers from local shelters, banners throughout the school, poster boards with pivotal women, and a table that provided all of the proper channels of information such as pamphlets on shelters, counseling, and even yoga centers, which have been proven to be a great release of stress.
Two members of the Honors Program, Karen Bolivar and Jully Flores, helped out with a website for everyone to view at their leisure (designed by Kelvin Alfonso) http://helppaintpurple.com/ and held two bake sales, as well as sold purple bracelets (which is the color to wear for sexual assault support) to help raise money for local shelters.
The purpose of this event was to shed light on a serious topic and to provide insight on the plight of women all over the globe. It is the hope that it was a day of renewal and empowerment for victims and their loved ones. The people involved with this event are thankful for all who were there in support of women all over the world.
