Faculty, staff, family and friends gathered this week at CW’s library for a very special event. Last April CW lost a very dear friend, Dr. William Papallo, who was also the Chairman of the Board. In remembrance of Dr. Papallo, The College named the Library in his honor as: The William R. Papallo Library.
“Bill’s death was unexpected and swift, and we miss him very much. His legacy, love of learning, reading and teaching live on, and it’s a propos that we dedicate the library to his memory,” said Karen Smith, president of The College of Westchester. “He was a very special man who had a way of connecting with everyone that he met. Dr. Papallo served as a great example of The CW Way, always stopping to chat and say hello to all students, staff and faculty in which he came in contact,” Smith added.
Dr. Papallo joined The College of Westchester in 1992 and was named president in 1993. He received his Ph.D. in Educational Administration from the University of Connecticut, a M.S. degree in Social Science and B.S. degree in Elementary Education from Central Connecticut State University.
In addition to remembering Dr. Papallo, the event included the recognition of the inaugural WRP Scholarship Recipient, Marc Civil who also cut the ribbon to inaugurate the renaming of the library: “Another way in which we saw fitting to ensure Bill’s spirit and passion for learning and education lived on was to offer a scholarship in his name,” said Karen Smith. The recipient, Marc Civil thanked The CW Charitable Foundation, his former teachers and staff: “This is a great feeling. Being the first recipient of the WRP scholarship is an honor and privilege. It just shows that with a little faith, dedication and hard work always will pay off at the end.”
