“First and foremost
I’m thankful that I got the opportunity to take part in this program.
I’m elated that I had the chance to meet other college and university scholars from around the world and acquire new skills and make great connections.” — Ryan Pink
The iSchool Inclusion Institute of Information Sciences (i3) at the
University of Pittsburgh’s School of Information Sciences (iSchool) is
an undergraduate research and leadership development program that
prepares students who show promise in the information and library
sciences for graduate studies and careers. The Institute is funded in
part by a generous grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
With help from CW faculty and staff, Ryan was recommended and accepted
into the program after completing the application process which involved
submitting two recommendation letters, undergraduate transcripts from
CW, an application, and three essays. While attending CW, Ryan undertook
a year-long experience that included two summer sessions at University
of Pittsburgh where he and 18 other college students from across the
country were broken up into five different teams to work on separate
Team Research Projects. Ryan’s Team researched social media and public
engagement during U.S. political election periods. With support from the
iSchool Inclusion Institute, Ryan’s i3 Team presented the final
research findings in Berlin, Germany where they fielded questions from
Ph.D. students and faculty researchers.
