Fall 2009 Student of the Semester

The faculty of The College of Westchester (CW) has selected Madiha Kanwal of Ossining as CW’s Student of the Semester for the Fall of 2009. In an effort to recognize Madiha for her outstanding achievements, Karen J. Smith, President of The College of Westchester, presented Madiha with a gift certificate and her own designated parking spot for the semester.

Madiha is an Accounting major who will graduate in August. While attending CW, Madiha has been very active in student activities. She is the president of the Accounting Society, a member of Phi Theta Kappa, and a new member of the Honors Program. She has received the Student Spirit & Perfect Attendance Awards, and with her 4.00 GPA has achieved the President’s List for several semesters. She is also a work study student in the Library and says she “loves CW because the teachers and faculty have always guided her and helped her in her studies”.

Madiha plans on continuing with her education and wants to become a Certified Public Accountant. We congratulate Madiha on all her achievements!

Toys for Tots!

It's not too late to participate in this year's Toys for Tots drive, which is being sponsored by the Student Government Association and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society! Collection bins are located in the Academic Center on the 4th Floor, Career Services on the 3rd Floor, and in the Main Lobby.

All toys should be wrapped and labeled to indicate age range and gender. Toys will be given to children spending the holiday at the White Plains Hospital.

Drive ends December 22 at 6 pm.

The College of Westchester Inducts Students into Sigma Delta Honor Society

White Plains, NY: On November 18, The College of Westchester (CW) proudly inducted 8 students into Sigma Beta Delta Honor Society The purpose of the society is to encourage and recognize scholarship and accomplishment among students of business, management and administration in bachelor and master degree programs. In addition, the society encourages and promotes aspirations towards personal and professional improvement and a life distinguished by honorable service. CW Faculty Select Michael Adebiyi as Student of the Semester

Michael is an Accounting major who will graduate in August of 2010. He decided to attend CW because he felt his presence would be acknowledged at a smaller college. While attending CW, Michael has been academically successful by achieving the Dean’s List each semester. He is also involved in student clubs and activities and was recently inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

College of Westchester Named as Semi-Finalist for Freedom Award!

3 New York Employers, including the College of Westchester, were recently named semi-finalists for the 2009 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award. This award is the highest honor the US government gives to employers for their exceptional support of their employees serving in the Guard and Reserve.

The award is especially significant because only members of the National Guard and Reserve or their families can nominate employers for this award.

New Members!

This spring 33 new members were inducted into Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), bringing the total number of the College of Westchester's PTK membership to approximately 170 since our affiliation began in 2006.  

Our Phi Theta Kappa members perform a significant amount of community service.  In the past, they have raised funds for St. Jude’s Research Hospital, have held food drives as well as a school supplies drive for a local shelter. They also have partnered with the Student Government Association in a “Toys for Tots” drive for White Plains Hospital’s Pediatric Ward. Currently, they are again working with the Student Government Association to collect items for our military overseas. 

Also, 8 new members were inducted into CW's new Sigma Beta Delta (SBD) Honor Society this spring.  

This honor society is for BBA students only.  For entrance into this society students must have completed a minimum of 93 credits and be in the top 20% of their class – a real honor to be sure.
