Just like any other professional society medical assistants also have their own week. It’s called Medical Assistant Recognition Week here in the United States and will be celebrated October 17-21 under the theme of “At the Heart of Healthcare.” National Medical Assistant week has been celebrated since 1984.
The celebration emphasized the role of medical assistants in the healthcare system and it was celebrated by many professionals nationwide with the help of American Medical Technologists (AMT), a nonprofit organization which provides certification service for many allied health professionals. Here at CW, there are 229 medical assisting students representing 21.7% of our total enrollment. In addition, since 2010 when we first offered the RMA exam, 89% of our graduates have earned the RMA credential awarded by the AMT.
Medical assisting is an allied health profession whose practitioners functions as members of the health care delivery team and performs administrative and clinical procedures. With their unique versatility, medical assistants are proving to be the allied health professional of choice for this decade and beyond. In fact, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, medical assisting continues to be projected as one of the fastest growing occupations.
Let’s celebrate our medical assisting students and recognize them during the week of October 17-21. After all, these dedicated individuals may one day be our caregiver in the future.
